The Bike Before Beer Club (BBBC)
The Bike Before Beer Club began around 2017 when a group of local friends came together through a shared love of cycling. What initially started as road rides gradually evolved as the group discovered the gravel roads and backcountry routes of Northwest Arkansas. By 2021, gravel riding had become an important part of the group’s adventures. Today, approximately 20 regular riders share miles on both road and gravel, with many also exploring the region’s mountain bike trails.
Over the years, the group has ridden countless miles and participated in numerous organized rides together, but the story of the club extends far beyond cycling. At its heart is friendship, camaraderie, adventure, and the kind of connection that develops through years of traveling the same roads together.
It is this connection that inspired the cycling series. Rather than focusing simply on bicycles or landscapes, the paintings explore the experience of the journey itself: riders disappearing around a bend, traveling together along a quiet gravel road, entering a darkened tunnel, or becoming small figures within the vast landscape around them. In these works, the riders become part of the places through which they travel, creating a larger story about friendship, movement, memory, and connection to place.
In Memory of Mark Myrvik
Among the friendships at the heart of the club was that of Mark Myrvik, a fellow rider and friend whose loss is deeply felt by those who rode beside him.
This cycling series honors Mark’s memory and celebrates the friendships forged along the road, the miles shared together, and the people who remain part of the journey long after the ride has ended.
